Chasing Joy

Today marks the beginning of something new. A shift. A fresh chapter.

For the next 13 weeks, my life will be a whirlwind of travel, random destinations, new faces, new experiences, and a whole lot of work on the go. But this isn’t just about work. It’s about creativity. It’s about seeing the world through a different lens, literally and figuratively. Filming and editing while traveling has always sparked something in me, it frees me up, makes me see connections I wouldn’t normally see, and helps me create in a way that feels more alive. And if there’s one thing I’ve realized, it’s that feeling alive is a choice.

And since I’ll have my cameras with me… why not document the journey? Seems like the perfect time to finally start my YouTube channel. I’ve been talking about it long enough, it’s time to actually do it. But this trip isn’t just about working remotely. It’s about chasing something deeper. Something I think we all want but rarely take the time to look for, joy.

Lately, it feels like joy is in short supply. Everywhere I turn, people seem exhausted, frustrated, stuck in the grind. But I don’t believe the world is as miserable as it looks on the surface. I think joy is still out there, waiting to be found in everyday moments, the kind we rush past without noticing. So, I’m setting out to find it. To strike up conversations with strangers, to ask them what makes them happy, what small things bring them joy, what moments have shaped them. Because if there’s one thing I’ve learned through my work, it’s that everyone has a story, and sometimes, all it takes is the right question to remind people of the good in their lives.

As a self-employed creative, I love what I do. The freedom to work on the road, to tell stories, to capture moments, it’s why I started down this path in the first place. But along with that freedom, I’ve let some things slide, especially when it comes to my mental and physical health. It’s easy to focus on the next project, the next deadline, and forget to take care of myself. This journey isn’t just about filming, it's about balance. It’s about chasing joy not just in the world, but in myself. Getting stronger. Feeling better. Living fully.

Back home, my wife and kids are deep in their own routines, their own adventures. And if I’m being honest, things are a lot less stressful at home when I’m not around, less barking from the dog, for starters. But we’ll still have our moments together, whether it’s during visits home or when they get the chance to join me on the road. And that’s what makes this all feel right, it’s not about leaving anything behind; it’s about growing, expanding, and making space for the things that matter.

I don’t know exactly where this journey will take me, but that’s the point. It’s not about having a set destination, it’s about being open to whatever comes next. It’s about chasing joy in all its forms, big moments, small moments, unexpected conversations, and the quiet realization that happiness isn’t something you stumble upon. It’s something you choose to seek.

Here’s to the road ahead. And here’s to capturing it all.
